How can you reach Skogafoss?

Skogafoss is simple to find, located directly off Ring Road 1. The journey from Reykjavik will lead you through the towns of Hveragerdi, Selfoss, and Hella. You will go by Seljalandsfoss and proceed towards the village Vik.

Once you’ve gone past Seljalandsfoss, it takes approximately 25-30 minutes of driving to arrive at Skogafoss. If you are traveling on the Ring Road toward Reykjavik, the waterfall is approximately 25-30 minutes from Vik.

The Skogasafn Museum

Dear Lykkers! Skogar, the region surrounding Skogafoss, features the charming Skogar Museum. The museum operates from 9 am to 6 pm in June, July, and August, and from 10 am to 5 pm during the other months.

The Skogar Museum is divided into three separate sections. There is the Open Air Museum, the Museum of Folk Culture, and the Museum of Technology. By buying a ticket (2000 ISK), you gain access to all the museums both indoors and outdoors.

Skogafoss Trekking

The Skogafoss region is renowned for its exceptional hiking trails, with the Fimmvorduhals trail being the most well-known. Fimmvorduhals is the initial location of the 2010 eruption of the Eyjafjallajokull Stratovolcano. It’s among the most favored routes for hikers in Iceland.

Fimmvorduhals is a region nestled between the Eyjafjallajokull and Myrdalsjokull glaciers and is regarded as one of Iceland's favorite hiking paths. The blend of black sands, sparkling glaciers, lush fields, and many waterfalls is a genuine dream. Skogafoss Waterfall is located on the southern coast of Iceland.

The hiking path will lead you by the newly formed volcanic craters Magni and Modi that emerged during the Eyjafjallajokull eruption. It concludes within the lush valley of Thor, Thorsmork.

The path measures 22 kilometers (14 mi) in length and is typically completed as a day hike, followed by an overnight stay in Thorsmork.
